she thought she saw
the shadow of his hand
across her face
she trembled
he would get mad
and say
"i've never harmed you
not once..."
and glower
in that way
you glower
when you think
you've lost her trust
she had to remind him
that he was tall
and strong of voice
she had to remind him
that he was a man
and unpredictable
and even thought
they taught each other
the language
of love and lunacy
he was still a stranger
in her eyes
no matter how long
he thought she knew
him
time started over
and over again
every time they
turned
and walk away
